DETAILS
Finca Nuguo is the top notch award winning farm, located in some of the best growing area in Panama, one of Jose Gallardo more boutique farms (he owns Garrido Estate and Mama Cata as well as some other smaller fields). Finca Nuguo, is situated between 1.750 and 1.950 masl around Jurutungo, Renacimiento, in the province of Chiriqui, nestled between a natural rainforest reserve on the one side and the border of Costa Rica on the other side.
Since 1960, the Gallardo family farms only produced Caturra and Catuai coffee varieties at lower elevations, until 2006, when José Gallardo began managing the farm, he saw the huge potential of the newly discovered Geisha variety which had been presented for the first time at the Best of Panama competition just 2 years earlier. José made the decision to start growing Geisha exclusively at much higher elevations, separating cultivars into five growing areas, each with a unique microclimate.
Over the next decade Jose Gallardo’s vision and innovative approach transformed Finca Nuguo into an award-winning farm. They took the BOP crown in 2015 and 2016, and started placing consistently in the top 5 after that. In 2021, Finca Nuguo sold for $2,568/lb at the BOP auction, almost doubling the previous record. Last season Nuguo Fermented coffee reached a score of 94.75 and was described as a “coffee with fun flavors, where the sweetness of the cherry is mixed with the acidity of tropical fruits”.
Today, Finca Nuguo continues to produce outstanding Geisha lots presenting beautiful examples of what makes this variety so very special.
"Cold wind and rain that come from the Atlantic through the mountains dividing Panama play an important role in the taste of the coffee from Nuguo" Pocho
You might know how rare a batch of Nuguo is in our world, so we are delighted and honored that Pocho kept one of his best lot for Oui Coffee this season.
This lot is a mix of green and bronze tip Geishas, after harvesting the cherries at their highest level of ripeness (purple), this batch was fermented in whole cherries for 108h, in an anaerobic environment and simply dried on raised beds.
You will find a refreshing hibiscus aroma, and on the palate, you will get some amazing flavors of pink lady apple and tropical lychees. All measured and balanced in the perfect Nuguo way.
